Museum Venturino Venturi

Museum Venturino Venturi

In 1980 Venturino Venturi decided to move back permanently to Loro Ciuffenna, where he had been born on 6th April 1918. He built his house which now houses the Venturino Venturi Archive, and left his home town an important legacy of his works. He donated 93 works of art to Loro Ciuffenna, a body of work which included sculptures and drawings, on the condition that the town create a Museum dedicated to his works. Very little time elapsed between the donation and the opening of the museum, and so on 23rd June 1993 the ground floor of the town hall opened its doors and the Museo Venturino Venturi was inaugurated.
The museum was subsequently expanded and re-organized and today contains seven sections organized according to the principal themes of Venturi’s artistic research. Since the donation which took place in the mid-1980s the collection has acquired modern instruments, and along with the Archivio Venturino Venturi, located in what was Venturini’s house, a centre has been created for the study of 20th Century Italian Culture. Venturino was a multifaceted artist who held vast networks of relations with the world of culture, and his works are today on show in the great museums of the world such as the Musei Vaticani, the Galleria degli Uffizi, and even the National Museum of Luxembourg Ville.
The Museo Venturino Venturi of Loro Ciuffenna is a public institution of regional importance.
It can be visited every day from April to September, and at weekends for the rest of the year with conferences, concerts, and temporary exhibitions animating its rooms. Over the years it has been very popular with primary school children who come from near and far. On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the artist the catalogue of the permanent collection was newly curated in English and Italian and can be found in the Museum book shop.
